I’ve just enabled server to server communication for the jabber server at work. As a result we are now federated with google talk, jabber.org and any other XMPP based IM service.
Setting it up basically entailed openning up the firewall port that was previously blocking it and updating an SRV record.Â
Its kinda cool how XMPP “just works” that way. Anyways, I put out a MOTD about this, but it will be interesting to see how much use it gets. Most people seem to be fond of maintaining their work and personal IM accounts seperate.
